Have completed your on-the-job, Apprentice Electrician training and have at least 2 years or 4,000 hours of work? Are you enjoying this chosen field and ready to move forward in your career?
The next license for an Inside electrician is to get your Residential Wireman’s License. To apply for the license, fill out the TDLR application and turn in an Experience Verification (electrical work history) form. This form is signed by the Master, Journeyman or Wireman you were working with to accumulate the minimum 4,000 hours. You may have different companies you worked for during this time and would need each one to complete the work form.
Once your hours have been verified, you will take the Texas Residential Wireman Exam. There are many sites/books that offer exam practice, but your on-the-job experience will be an important tool during this exam.
What do you do as a Residential Wireman? Complete more on-the-job training! Continue to learn and be supervised by a Journeyman or Master Electrician. You will need another 4,000 hours or 2 years of training to continue your rewarding career.
